Circus Katoen
A common love of nature, simple objects, visual humor and a never-ending search for their own personal voice are the foundations upon which the creations of Circus Katoen are built.
Our dream? Creating and playing our performances while continuing to grow our own vegetables.
Circus Katoen is the Flemish circus company of Willem Balduyck (BE) and Sophie van der Vuurst de Vries (NL). They met each other at Codarts Circus School in Rotterdam, from which they graduated together in 2012.
The physical circus performances which they create contain a surprising playfulness in which objects and ecology both play an important role. The objects that they choose are mostly natural, biodegradable or recycled.
With their second creation ‘As heavy as it goes’ they were selected as laureate for CircusNext in 2015-2016. CircusNext is a European platform for young up-and-coming circus talent.
